Don’t let the vehicles touch or a ground connection could be established.
Almost all cars today are negative ground, but if you have something exotic, you’d better look into it.
Turn everything off, the lights, the wipers, the fan, the radio, everything. Shut down the engine. And shut the door so even the dome light goes out.
When I jump start a car I always hold the positive lead in my teeth like this to keep it from coming in contact with either vehicle during the process.
Always connect your positives first and your negatives last.
