Life hacks kitchen edition – Alright today on Repairs101 I’ve got another edition of the always popular Life Hacks series. And this time we’re going in the kitchen – because everybody’s got to eat!
Getting toasted
Whether you’re using the oven or the stove or the microwave or the toaster. You gotta know that most house fires start in the kitchen. So when you’re cooking something – don’t walk away until you’re finished cooking.

Now here’s one you definitely don’t want to turn your back on. Or your toast is going to go up in flames. But in a pinch, three beer cans and a grill makes a toaster. Frozen bread can be easily separated using a butter knife to pry apart the slices. You can revitalize stale bread and thaw frozen bread by putting it in a brown paper bag and throwing it in the oven at three hundred and fifty degrees Fahrenheit for about fifteen minutes.

When you take something hot out of the oven – be sure to leave a potholder or an oven mitt on top as a signal to yourself and others that the pot is still hot. Keep your food fresh and your home safe from pests and vermin by keeping everything in glass jars. Keeping your bananas in a reusable sealing bag will help keep them ripe longer and significantly reduce the number of fruit flies in your home.
If your grapes are starting to turn and getting a little too soft to enjoy – chuck ‘em in the freezer for a surprisingly tasty cold treat.

Food scraps
Keep your food scraps in a sealing Tupperware type plastic bin like this Sterilite juice jug. For temporary compost storage or to freeze the scraps until you have enough to boil for a vegetable stock.
Before you juice a lemon or an orange knead the fruit in your hand or on a table top. To break the citrus cells and make the juicing easier.

Household stains
Use some lemon with baking soda to get even the toughest stains – like on this fifty year old tea pot. Granted it will never look as good as this sugar bowl from the same set – but it turned out great! Baking soda can be used for a lot of things besides baking. It can be used as a deodorizer, a stain remover, an abrasive cleanser. And when combined with ordinary vinegar it makes a natural bubbling drain cleaner. Alright thanks for watching and don’t forget to subscribe!
